In December 2019, Marya and John Halderman gifted more than 130 works on paper to the Vanka Murals. The Vanka Collection includes drawings and sketches of Pittsburgh in 1937 and 1941 as well as process sketches behind the Murals.
Dr. Sylvia Rhor will preview elements of the Vanka Collection and discuss the local context for Vanka's paintings. She is an art historian who has written extensively on public murals in Chicago and Pittsburgh. Dr. Rhor's current research focuses on Pittsburgh’s historic murals of the 1930s and 40s and Vanka’a pivotal role in this context.
The program is free but registration is required.
